Reshaping Europe's healthcare systems – a word from our director
IHI funds projects along the whole health innovation journey, and some of the most exciting – and important – innovations are helping to reshape Europe’s healthcare systems. Healthcare systems face multiple challenges, including a rising burden of disease due to ageing populations and the impacts of climate change, the need to secure a workforce that can manage care, and the digital transformation of care.
This month we have results from the Trials@Home project, and the launch of HospitalAtHome, both showing how technology can increasingly allow people to both participate in trials and receive care at home. But success in these projects requires more than technology innovation – we also need to find innovative solutions for building engagement and gaining the trust of civil society. We also need to find new methods for quality assurance and regulatory oversight.
Public-private partnerships – that include meaningful engagement with civil society and patients – are the way forward here. This is traditionally a hallmark of IHI projects and Trials@Home and HospitalAtHome continue in this tradition, including finding ways to bring patients into trial design.
As this newsletter is published, many of you will be finalising proposals for IHI call 12. To help you get the details right, we provide a wealth of guidance and advice on our website. The deadline is 21 April, so it’s time to start wrapping up your proposals – don’t wait until the last minute to submit!
